Excellent opportunity to run this historic village Inn. The only pub in the famous rural community of Yarpole, the Bell is now owned by the Mortimer Community Benefit Society, a group dedicated to the revival and sustainable future of this characterful and traditional pub.
Trading as a Free House, you will have flexibility in supplies, enabling you to maximise profits. You will pay a realistic and fair rent and you will have the support of the community in developing the business.
The Herefordshire village of Yarpole is celebrated for its award-winning ‘shop in the church’. Just off the Black and White Village Trail and a few miles from the Marches food-capital of Ludlow, Yarpole attracts visitors from all over the UK and beyond. The National Trust properties of Croft Castle and Berrington Hall are close by, with c200,000 visitors annually. The core market is formed from local and drive-out custom, plus cyclists, walkers and holiday makers. The Bell will be a mixed operation for both village and visitor trade with 60/40 food/wet sales. The demand is for freshly prepared food using quality ingredients, from short menus that change regularly, a good selection of cask ales and a well thought-out and affordable wine list.
The pub has gardens, parking, two bar areas and the Cider Barn restaurant, with kitchens capable of 100 covers. There is further land that could be used to add revenue streams to the operation. Tenant’s accommodation (3 to 4 bedrooms) is included.
The Mortimer Community Benefit Society are working on a programme of improvements for The Bell and the successful applicant will have the chance to influence the vision and works. You will need to be hardworking and enthusiastic, with a personal licence and experience of the licensed trade. The position would suit a front of house/chef couple who want to make a good living in a wonderful location.
