A unique opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Manager’s position in an award winning, busy community owned pub. The pub has a great tradition of live music and events, serves a large amount of real ale and is a real hub for the local community. Candidates should have experience of working in a busy bar environment with preferably some time in a management or supervisory role. The post will offer around 37 hours per week. Salary to be in the range of £21,000 to £24,000 depending on experience.

The role will include

Deputising for the General Manager on his planned absence (days off, holiday)

Managing day to day staffing, time keeping, sickness and attendance records

Managing staff holidays

Staff training, assessing their needs, keeping up with their progress and recording it

Stock ordering from various suppliers

Stock management and rotation

Working with our marketeer to promote events

Learning our back-office systems

Following the company’s operational procedures

Dealing with the community

Organising and running staff meetings

Making sure we maintain the quality of beer we are known for

Cash management

Fire alarm testing and health and safety checks

Liaising with our band booker to make sure that gigs and events are staffed and that the customers needs our catered for

Any other duties deemed appropriate by the General Manager

Essential criteria

3 years’ experience working in the pub or hospitality sector

An ability to manage a group of people and deal with change

Available to work a range of shifts including evenings and weekends

Excellent communication skills

Ability to work independently, as well as lead, lead manage and motivate a team

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and stay cool under pressure

An appreciation of the role of community pubs and an understanding of what makes a good pub

A thorough understanding of quality service and an ability to ensure staff meet customer expectations

Desirable criteria

Knowledge of the Bell

Hold a personal drinks licence

Experience of the storing and serving of real ales

Experience of stock management and the ability to identify and work with a range of suppliers

An ability to delegate
