Could you write the next chapter of our success story?

As our General Manager, you’ll be the driving force behind the success of the pub.

The Horse & Groom is looking for a new General Manager, as current General Manager Elliot is heading off for his next challenge at another of our managed pubs.

The Horse & Groom in Alresford is a cosy historic 17th century coaching inn that has served the riverside town of Alresford for over 400 years. The pub is a real centre of the community, a stone’s throw away from Winchester in the beautiful Hampshire countryside. The food offer is fresh and seasonal and can be enjoyed in summer in the beautiful courtyard, or inside the stunning oak beamed dining room alongside a range of great ales and drink offerings. Owing to the village location, the pub has a good and regular local customer base, however numerous events and festivals throughout the year also bring in people from far and wide.

The Horse & Groom provides an amazing opportunity for someone who is focussed on building, motivating and developing a strong team and who is looking to drive a well-established business forward, but at the same time ensuring ties with the local community are kept strong and the pub’s heritage is not lost. It is crucial that the General Manager wants to immerse themselves in the local community; past successful GMs have got involved in a variety of events and associations which flourish in this friendly community. The General Manager will need to have a commercial mind to make sure that the business is marketed well locally. Ensuring both the food and drink offer remains fresh and exciting but at the same time relevant to the customer base will be essential.

This is a live in opportunity

Ultimately, the smiles on faces, the return visits and the positive reviews are all down to you - making this one of the most rewarding jobs in the hospitality business.

  • Run a great pub, backed by the famous Fuller’s brewery
  • Enjoy the freedom to make the pub your own
  • Adopt a fantastic, friendly team
  • Benefit from a competitive salary and great discounts including 20% in all Fuller's pubs and heavily discounted stays in our hotels.
  • Benefit from industry leading training and development.
  • We will reward you every time you introduce a friend to the Fuller’s family who successfully passes their probation.

For any General Manager, Fuller’s is a special company to work for. You’ll get lots of help and support from Head Office when you need it, but also plenty of encouragement to put your own spin on the pub.

You can take plenty of pride in the role too, knowing that Fuller’s ales, food and service has a reputation as some of the very best in the business.

You’ll need to be commercially minded, making the right decisions to keep customers pouring through the doors. Importantly though, you’ll be a people-person too - mindful that to many, you’re still a good old-fashioned ‘Landlord’.

And of course, you’ll have a team to look after. So we’re looking for somebody with true leadership qualities – able to keep both the customers and the team smiling.

  • You’ll be great at leading a team
  • You should be highly motivated and commercially focused
  • You’ll need to be a great communicator
  • You should have previous management experience

Please understand that we will need proof of your right to work in the UK.
