The Bear is the oldest pub in Oxford, dating back to 1242 and is also one of the smallest. Despite it’s size, we have an excellent reputation for our home cooked food and currently rank in the top 35 restaurants in Oxford according to Trip Advisor.

The Bear has it’s own distinct menu, developed by our internal Chefs over the last five years with assistance from the team of Executive Chefs at Fullers. While not a food led business, our food sales are critical to our ongoing success and reputation so we take all areas of our catering seriously. That said, as a small team, we also know how and when to have fun.

Life in the kitchen is hectic, but exciting, especially when you are delivering quality meals from a kitchen the size of a submarine galley. It is crucial that you start with good basic cookery skills and share our passion for fresh produce. You will thrive under that constant time pressure and will take immense pride in every successful service.

You will be supported by experienced chefs both at the Bear and the Executive Chefs at Fullers who will help you reach your full potential.

Join us as a Junior Sous Chef and you’ll be right at the cutting edge of our kitchen’s creativity. You’ll be part of the kitchen management team reporting to the Head Chef, adding your experience and wisdom to the team mix.

As Junior Sous Chef & part of the kitchen management team reporting to the Head Chef, you’ll assist the Sous Chef to take full control of the kitchen when they’re away. It’s a great opportunity to make a real impact, and prove yourself ready to step up to the Head Chef role.

And you’ll be supported every step of the way by a team of talented Executive Chefs and Fuller’s training team to help you to develop your career.

You’ll need to be a talented chef with passion for fresh food and a love of kitchen camaraderie. You’ll be able to bring the best out in others – and you’ll take immense pride in every successful service.

A hygiene qualification, excellent food knowledge and food safety awareness are all be essential for being a Sous Chef with Fullers. But we’re interested in your personality and potential too – not just your previous experience.
